In 2013, the Connecticut River Valley saw high temperatures and increased rainfall, creating an ideal climate for growing broadleaf, according to General Cigar Co. Now, the company is ready to release some of the tobacco from that harvest for a special Macanudo.

The Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 is a new three-size line that uses that aged Connecticut broadleaf tobacco for its wrapper. Underneath is a Honduran OSA binder and three types of filler: Brazilian mata fina, two primings of Dominican piloto cubano and tobacco from Jalapa, Nicaragua.

It will be offered in three sizes:

  • Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 Robusto (5 x 50) — $11.99 (Box of 20, $239.80)
  • Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 Toro Grande (6 x 54) — $12.99 (Box of 20, $259.80)
  • Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 Churchill (7 x 49) — $13.29 (Box of 20, $265.80)

“The growing season in 2013 was one of the best I’ve ever seen,” said Ernest Gocaj, director of tobacco procurement for General Cigar Co., in a press release. The crop was exceptional at harvest, which meant that we had to be obsessive when it came to monitoring the tobacco during the eight-week curing process. That’s how important curing is. Our hard work paid off because we ultimately brought the tobacco’s very best attributes to life.”

General Cigar Co. says it has begun shipping the Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 today.
