Just days ahead of the Lunar New Year, Les Fines Lames has unveiled a trio of new dragon-themed designs for its Le Petit cigar knife that are being released in celebration of the Year of the Dragon.

All three designs have a body that features a design of silver scales, with two models offering engraved blades to create distinctive presentations. The company says that the trilogy, as they refer to it, has been sculpted to embody the power and grace of legendary dragons and share a tale of indomitable strength, good fortune, and transformation.

The collection starts with the Le Petit Silver Dragon Scales, which is priced at $289 and does not feature a design on the blade.

The Le Petit Bailong adds a design to the blade that embodies the symbolism of the white dragon, which is said to be often associated with purity, goodness, and positive forces in Chinese mythology. It is priced at $299.

Rounding out the trilogy is the Le Petit Panlong, a tribute to the Coiled Dragon of the same name. The company says that the Panlong is a shorter dragon regarded as a peaceful and benevolent creature that is associated with rain and thunder and suggests the qualities of water dragons in Chinese mythology, such as fluidity, adaptability, and the power of transformation. It is also priced at $299.

All three designs are available via Les Fines Lames’ website, and will begin shipping to retailers in the next week or two.

None of the three designs in the Dragon Scales Trilogy are a limited edition, but they join a gold version released in January that was limited to just 10 pieces. That model is priced at $459.

Les Fines Lames’s Le Petit cigar knife debuted in 2015 and is made in Thiers, France, referred to as the capital of French cutlery. When closed, it measures 4.53 inches long, while  with the blade open it measures 6.18 inches. The 0.91 inch diameter of the cigar hole allows the user to cut a 58 ring gauge cigar in half, though the Le Petit can also handle cutting the cap of a cigar with up to a 70 ring gauge.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
