The La Palina Goldie Laguito No. 5 has begun its return to stores, as the company has started shipping the Series 2 version that it featured at the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show in July.

The La Palina Goldie Laguito No. 5 Series 2 is a re-release of the 5 5/8 x 54 robusto extra that debuted in May 2013 as the second vitola in the Goldie line. The company has produced 1,000 boxes of 10 cigars for this return, with individual cigars priced at $24.

La Palina’s Goldie line has a blend that uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper, an Ecuadorian binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.

Bill Paley, owner of La Palina, calls the Goldie his cigar to honor the women of the cigar industry. It is named after his grandmother, Goldie Drell Paley, and is produced at the El Titan de Bronze factory in Miami, Fla., which is owned by Sandy Cobas.

As for the Goldie Prominente Series 3, which was only available to retailers who attended this year’s PCA Convention & Trade Show, a representative of the company said the company is aiming to begin shipping the cigars by the end of September. That cigar is a 6 1/2 x 48 vitola that debuted in 2021 and received a second release at the 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show. It is also priced at $24 per cigar, but production is limited to just 500 boxes of 10 cigars, the same amount that was produced for the 2022 release.

The company is also looking to ship its new La Palina 1948 line in late September or early October. That cigar, created for Paley’s 75th birthday, is being made by Oliva Cigar Co. and uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed wrapper atop a Nicaraguan binder and filler.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
