The full run of sizes in Jake Wyatt Cigar Co.’s newest line, J.W. Maverick, is on the way to stores today.

The company debuted the new cigar in February at the 2023 Total Product Expo (TPE), though it was a very limited release, as just 200 bundles of 10 cigars in a toro vitola. Then in July, at the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show, the company showed off two more sizes, a robusto and box-pressed gordo, bringing the size to three vitolas:

  • Jake Wyatt Cigar Co. J.W. Maverick Robusto (5 x 50) — $9 (Box of 22, $198)
  • Jake Wyatt Cigar Co. J.W. Maverick Toro (6 x 54) — $10 (Box of 22, $220)
  • Jake Wyatt Cigar Co. J.W. Maverick Box-Pressed Gordo (6 x 60) — $11 (Box of 22, $242)

The blend features a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, a corojo-seed binder of undisclosed origins, and a filler that contains Pennsylvania-grown broadleaf along with criollo and piloto tobacco of undisclosed origin. The blend is described as much bolder and fuller than anything the company has released to date, though the company also dscribes it as a rich and smooth flavor experience.

The J.W. Maverick is named for the son of co-founder Gerard Abajian and is produced at Casamorabo Tabacalera in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
