After getting a preview at the 2023 Tobacco Plus Expo (TPE) in February and making some appearances at events since, J. London Cigars’ The Ripper line is ready to get its full release at next month’s PCA Convention & Trade Show.

The cigar is a 5 1/4 x 50 robusto that uses an Ecuadorian corojo wrapper, Ecuadorian habano binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic & Nicaragua. The cigars are in 10-count boxes with bands, with individual cigars priced at $12.99 per cigar, a bit less than the originally announced price of $13.80.

One thing that hasn’t changed since TPE is that one cigar per box will come with custom tobacco artwork on it, specifically a dagger and some drops of blood cut from a darker leaf of tobacco and then affixed onto the cigar’s wrapper.

The cigars are produced by Martinez Cigars, which is headquartered in New York City and produces cigars both in Manhattan and in the Dominican Republic.

The Ripper is scheduled to begin shipping the week after the PCA Convention & Trade Show, which runs from July 8-11 in Las Vegas. Jonathan Fiant, owner of J. London Cigars, told halfwheel that he plans to add another size or two to the line ahead of the holiday season.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
