Garret Robinson has announced that he has departed his role as vp of sales, a position he held for approximately eight months after joining the company in January 2023.

The change was confirmed by Juan Lugo, co-founder of Don Doroteo, who told halfwheel that the departure happened earlier this month. Lugo added that the vp of sales and marketing role is now being split between Josie Ortega, who will handle the U.S. West Coast, while Justin Moore will handle the East Coast of the U.S.

Prior to joining Don Doroteo, Robinson worked as a broker of cigars in the midwest and was a co-host of How Bout That Cigar, a cigar podcast and blog.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity and learned a lot in a short period of time,” Robinson said in a Facebook post announcing his departure. “I’m also grateful for amazing friends in the cigar industry who were resources of wisdom and counsel without hesitation.”

Robinson said he’ll be “doing some IT stuff” in his next chapter.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
