Last year, Don Doroteo debuted at the PCA Convention & Trade Show with cigars the company said were aged for more than 14 years prior to their release. This year, the company will be back at the PCA Convention & Trade Show with a line that uses some of the Dominican Republic’s most unique tobacco.

The company has two new blends that will be sold under the Salt of the Earth name. Don Doroteo issued a press release that said it was declining to disclose details about the blends in orer to “heighten the sense of discovery and anticipation leading up to the PCA Trade Show.” What it has disclosed is that the cigars will use andullo tobacco.

Andullo tobaccos, native to the Dominican Republic, are instead wrapped tightly in large pods known as yaguas, almost like 15-foot long burritos, and then wrapped in rope to help compress the tobacco even further. The end result is something that is more or less a large log of tobacco where slices are cut off as seen in the video, and are more commonly chewed or smoked via pipes. Andullo is more of a process than a seed varietal, though it’s something that is typically only found in the Dominican Republic.

No company is more prominent about their use of than La Aurora, which made Don Doroteo’s debut line. It’s unclear whether La Aurora is producing these two lines.

The 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show takes place July 8-11.
