Next week, Fortaleza y Libre will release its newest blend, Intimidador.

This new regular production line is made with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper covering a Dominican-grown binder and filler. Greg Free, president of Fortaleza y Libre Cigars, told halfwheel that the filler tobacco is “first generation Cuban seed…specifically (a) Criollo 98 hybrid.”

Intimidador is being made at Tabacalera El Hoyito in Tamboril, Dominican Republic and will include two vitolas at launch, both packaged in boxes of 21:

  • Fortaleza y Libre Intimidador Corona (5 1/4 x 44) — $8.99 (Box of 21, $188.79)
  • Fortaleza y Libre Intimidador Toro (6 x 50) — $10.99 (Box of 21, $230.79)

“This addition expands our catalog of blends on the full-bodied and full-strength end of the spectrum,” Free said in a press release. “With the recent addition of the Avalanche and now the Intimidador, we have a cigar for every palette.”

According to a press release, Intimidador will debut at Tobaccology, a retail chain of stores in Virginia, on March 17. The line will then be shown off during the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show, which takes place March 23-25 in Las Vegas. It will ship to retailers on April 1.

halfwheel's coverage of the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show is sponsored by Drew Estate.

I have worn many hats in my life up to this point: I started out as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, then transitioned to photographing weddings—both internationally and in the U.S.—for more than a decade. After realizing that there was a need for a cigar website containing better photographs and more in-depth information about each release, I founded my first cigar blog, SmokingStogie, in 2008. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars, and it was one of the predecessors to halfwheel, which I co-founded.
