The latest creation from My Father Cigars will be hitting store shelves in the very near future, as Janny García confirmed that La Antiguedad will begin shipping this week.

The blend has been in the works since 2009 and brings back to life an old Cuban brand of the same name, which means “The Antiquity.” García said that it had been a challenge finding the original Cuban artwork, which has a look similar to that of another of My Father’s lines, Flor de Las Antillas. Photos of the boxes have been shared recently by members of the My Father sales force, including Jeremy Soares, the northeast sales manager for the company:

All but the wrapper leaf comes from My Father’s farms, with the filler coming from three different farms in the San Rafael, Las Quebradas and San Jose regions of Nicaragua. Each of the leaves produced by the company has been aged at least three and a half years, including the double binder which uses one Nicaraguan Criollo leaf one Nicaraguan Corojo leaf. The wrapper is an Ecuadoran Habano leaf.

García says that La Antiguedad is medium to full body and very complex. It was blended by her father, Jose “Don Pepín” García and her brother, Jaíme García.

There will be five sizes released in the La Antiguedad line at its launch, all of which are box pressed: a 5 1/4 x 52 robusto, 5 5/8 x 55 toro, 6 3/8 x 47 corona grande, 7 x 56 super toro and 6 x 60 toro gordo. All will come in twenty-count boxes with single stick prices between $7.40 and $9.

Update (May 28, 2014) — Updated pricing to current range provided by Janny García.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
