Today, Steve Saka shared the list of new products that Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust will be unveiling at the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show in July, and it includes two new additions for the company’s Unicorn vitola, a 6 1/4 x 60 diadema that was first released in the company’s Muestra de Saka line.

Both the Sobremesa Brûlée Blue and Mi Querida Black lines will add the vitola, and both will be very limited. Steve Saka estimated that there will be 200 boxes of 10 cigars that will come in individual coffins for each blend, though noted that production numbers will probably be closer to 150 boxes after the cigars are sorted for quality control. In a Facebook post, Saka noted that whatever quantity is produced ahead of the PCA trade show will be all that is made for 2023, though did indicate that more could be produced in 2024.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but the Unicorn vitola is known for being priced at $100.

The Sobremesa Brûlée Blue debuted in August 2020 as an offshoot of the company’s Sobremesa Brûlée line, and uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, a Matacapan negro de Temporal binder from Mexico, and fillers from Nicaragua. It has thus far only been released in a 6 1/4 x 46 grand corona vitola. The cigar finished #4 on halfwheel’s Top 25 Cigars of 2020.

The Unicorn will be the second new size for the Mi Querida Black line, as the company also announced the PapaSaka on Friday, a 5 5/8 x 48 parejo that is due out in July or August. The Mi Querida Black line uses a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, Mexican San Andrés negro binder, and filler from the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Both the Sobremesa Brûlée Blue Unicorn and the Mi Querida Black Unicorn are expected to be released in either July or August.

Additionally, Saka said that he is planning to add a second cigar to the company’s Archive Series, though has not yet decided which cigar will be getting a reprise but did note that it is planned to be released in January 2024. The Todos Las Días Thick Lonsdale “Mas Fuerte” was the first cigar to be part of the Archive Series, with the company bringing back the cigar as a limited edition in February after the entire Todos Las Dias line was put on hiatus due to quality and consistency challenges among cigars produced in 2020 and 2021.

Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust also announced plans to take its Red Meat Lovers Club line national after previously limiting it to a retailer exclusive, a change that will add two new sizes to the line. There will also be a new event-only cigar called PataPerro, which will replace the company’s current event-only cigar, Polpetta. The company also confirmed that the previously announced Muestra de Saka Krakatoa, is on schedule for a September release.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
