A bit later than anticipated, Crowned Heads’ newest Blood Medicine cigar is off to stores.

Blood Medicine’s roots trace back to 2015 when the company introduced an event-only cigar by the name of Snake Oil. Due to a trademark dispute, the company quickly changed the name to Blood Medicine. That particular cigar is a different cigar, both in blend and size.

The cigar that is now heading to stores is the Blood Medicine Limited Edition 2024, a 6 x 52 toro that uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over an Ecuadorian Connecticut binder and fillers from Nicaragua. Previous versions of Blood Medicine have been 5 1/2 x 48 and 5 x 50.

This version of Blood Medicine is made at Eradio Pichardo’s TacaNicsa factory; Pichardo made the 2022 version, though the original cigar was made at My Father Cigars S.A.

While previous versions of Blood Medicine have been event-only cigars, this cigar is a limited edition release that is being sold in a traditional manner. The MSRP is set at $11.95 per cigar; production is limited to 1,500 boxes of 12 cigars. Originally, it was expected to ship in March.

In 2022, Crowned Heads explained the choice of the name:

‘Blood Medicine’ takes its name from a three-story building located on the corner of Broadway and 4th Avenue in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. That building was originally built as a three-floor pharmacy in 1872 before being converted into a hotel in 1892. The hotel operated until the 1980’s, and in 1988 the building would be purchased and re-opened as Merchants Restaurant. Nashville’s music scene would attract some legendary musicians to stay at The Merchants Hotel over the years, including Hank Williams, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and Patsy Cline. There are rumors that the building also served as a brothel and a casino over the years. While many legendary tales exist about the historic building, including legends of Civil War ghosts that still wander the halls, evidence of the original pharmacy still exists. On the painted words, “Blood Medicine,” remains still visible. Blood Medicine pays homage to the history of Crowned Heads’ home city of Nashville with a unique smoking experience.
