In 2014, Colibri released a limited edition humidor created with Daniel Marshall that was notable not just for the collaboration but for its exterior design, which featured small pyramids on every face except the bottom and which drew inspiration from the hobnail pattern on the vintage 1960s Colibri Moletric lighter. The humidor, the Colibri Quasar, kicked off a series of accessories that would grow to include cutters, lighters and ashtrays.

Then, in 2019, the company released what might have been seen as the final piece of the collection, the Colibri Quasar Table Lighter, a triple-flame tabletop lighter that stood just under 4.5 inches tall and measured about 2.75 inches at its widest point. It also weighed in at a hefty 29.3 ounces, just under two pounds.

However, the company has just released a new lighter, the Quasar II, a smaller, dual-flame version that the company says marks the inception of its pocket-sized collection designed to complement the entire line.

The Quasar II measures just under three inches in height and offers a wind-resistant, dual torch flame that is activated with a simple thumbs-up motion and which the company says will work at elevations up to 10,000 feet. There is also a built-in stainless steel 9mm cigar punch that is activated via a push-button trigger release. Rounding out the features, the Quasar II offers a large flame adjustment wheel on its base and the company’s signature blue-tinted fuel window.

The Colibri Quasar II is offered in seven colors: black, silver, gunmetal, red, navy, blue, and green, each of which is priced at $99. The lighter is currently available via the company’s online store and Colibri retailers. It comes with a gift box and a two-year warranty.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
