Cohiba Riviera Heads to Stores

The first box-pressed Cohiba is now heading to stores.

Yesterday, General Cigar Co. began shipping the new Cohiba Riviera to retailers in the U.S. Riviera is the first new Cohiba from General since 2020, the first box-pressed Cohiba and the first time that a Cohiba has used a Mexican San Andrés wrapper. Underneath that Mexican wrapper is a Honduran binder and four different fillers: tobaccos from the Jamastran Valley and La Entrada in Honduras and Nicaraguan tobaccos from Condega and Estelí.

Unlike most of General Cigar Co.’s Cohibas—which are made in the Dominican Republic—Riviera is produced at STG Estelí in Nicaragua.

“Cohiba Riviera is a bold yet balanced blend of the most exceptional tobaccos from Nicaragua with exclusively-grown tobaccos from Honduras,” said Sean Williams, brand ambassador for Cohiba, in a press release when the cigar was announced last month. “Medium-to-full bodied and adorned with a delectable wrapper from Mexico, Riviera is an elegant selection offering notes of dark chocolate and coffee bean with a hint of leather and subtle cream on the finish.”

General Cigar Co. sells the non-Cuban Cohiba brand in the U.S., though it also sells some of the non-Cuban Cohiba blends under the “Silencio” name in select countries. Habanos S.A. sells the Cuban Cohiba brand in countries other than the U.S.
