General Cigar Company’s Cohiba line of cigars will be adding a 6 x 60 Gigante size to its portfolio in March, according to a source familiar with the information.
The news comes nearly a year after it was announced that two other lines in General’s portfolio, the Macanudo Café and Macanudo Maduro, would be adding the same size.
The Cohiba line, generally referred to as the Red Dot line due to the red mark in the middle of the o in Cohiba, is arguably the most popular of the Cohiba marcas, which also includes the Cohiba XV, Cohiba Black and Cohiba Puro Dominicana. The Cohiba ‘Red Dot’ line uses a Cameroon wrapper over Dominican Piloto Cubano filler and an Indonesian Jember binder. They are made at General Cigar Dominicana in Santiago.
The Gigantes will be the 13th vitola in the Cohiba Red Dot line and will be sold in 10-count boxes. The current lineup of sizes is as follows:
- Churchill – 7 x 49
- Corona Especiale – 6 1/2 x 42
- Lonsdale Grande – 6 1/4 x 47
- Triangulo – 6 x 54
- Toro – 6 x 50
- Crystal Corona (en tubo) – 5.5 x 42
- Corona – 5 1/8 x 42
- Robusto – 5 x 49
