The next box of CLE Cigar Co.’s eponymously named line of cigars you buy might well come in a box with a new look, as the company has announced that it is giving the line a refresh.

The design was inspired by the look of classic Cuban cigars, according to a press release from the company. Christian Eiroa said that he was hosting an event at The House of Grauer in Geneva, Switzerland, a cigar lounge and retailer, when the inspiration struck to make the change.

“The C.L.E. core line blends are cigars that we are immensely proud of, but I never felt the packaging presented the cigars in the right light,” Eiroa said in a press release. “We decided to bring it back to basics, to another time. We look forward to presenting the newly redesigned CLE blends at the PCA in Las Vegas.”

Beyond the change to the boxes, the cigars are presented in what the company calls a “half wheel” format of 25 cigars, held together with a ribbon. The new bands and tissue paper that adorn the cigars are said to evoke a sense of nostalgia.

The CLE line is offered in three wrapper options: an Ecuadorian Connecticut, a Honduran habano, and a Honduran corojo, all of which use Honduran tobacco for the binder and filler. All three blends are offered in 25-count boxes and five vitolas, including the 11/18 figurado:

  • CLE Connecticut / Corojo / Habano 40 x 4 — $8.76 (Box of 25, $219)
  • CLE Connecticut / Corojo / Habano 50 x 5 — $10.16 (Box of 25, $254)
  • CLE Connecticut / Corojo / Habano 11/18 (6 1/4 x 52/60) — $10.66 (Box of 25, $266.5o)
  • CLE Connecticut / Corojo / Habano 54 X 6 — $10.86 (Box of 25, $271.50)
  • CLE Connecticut / Corojo / Habano  60 X 60 — $11.16 (Box of 25, $279)

The company has not yet announced when the new packaging design will begin arriving in stores.

Update (March 25, 2024) — The company says the updated packaging will begin arriving in April.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
