As the cigar industry is just about a month away from its biggest annual event, the PCA Convention & Trade Show, Artista Cigars has begun shipping a pair of cigar lines that it showed off at last year’s show, Artista Harvest and Artista Midnight.

The Artista Harvest, which features yellow and gold-colored bands and packaging, uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, an Ecuadorian habano seco binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic that the company describes as being proprietary. The company says the blend offers spice, rich honey, elderberry and earthy cashew and almond.

It is offered in two sizes, a 5 x 54 robusto priced at $10.20 and a 6 x 50 toro priced at $10.40, both of which are offered in 20-count boxes.

The Artista Midnight sports a noticeably darker wrapper than the Harvest, using an Ecuadorian habano leaf, while the binder is a shade-grown Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf and the fillers come from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and the U.S.A. The company says the profile is marked by deep, rich and earthy notes of coffee, spice, and chestnut with a citrus finish.

It is offered in the same two sizes as the Harvest: a 5 x 54 robusto priced at $10.20 and a 6 x 50 toro priced at $10.40, with the two sizes wearing navy blue-accented bands and offered in 20-count boxes that have a blue theme to them.

Both lines were featured as part of the company’s rebranding in 2022 and had been slated to ship in the fall, but were delayed due to packaging issues.

“We are excited to finally deliver Artista to our patient retailer partners; it took us a bit longer than anticipated to get this brand to retailers but we believe the final product was worth the wait,” said Radhames “Ram” Rodriguez, president of Artista Cigars, in a press release.

“For the Artista lines we challenged ourselves to make something different,” said Kevin Newman, vp of Artista Cigars, in a press release. “We spoke with our factory team and worked with our agronomist. We asked them to seek new materials, source often over-looked tobaccos, and asked our best artisans to help us develop something wholly different.”

Artista Cigars makes its lines at Tabacalera El Artista S.R.L. in Tamboril, Dominican Republic.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
