Drew Estate will be producing the next installment in Florida retailer Smoke Inn’s Microblend Series, as today the store announced the project will be called Pope of Greenwich Village.
While neither Smoke Inn nor Drew Estate provided any specifics about the cigar at the time of its announcement, it will be released on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 as part of the store’s Great Smoke VIP dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in West Palm Beach, Fla. Both Marvin Samel and Jonathan Drew are scheduled to appear at the release event, and attendees will receive a five-pack of the cigars in advance of their formal release.
It will be the tenth release in the Microblend Series, joining the recently released Illusione Pactum, which debuted on Dec. 5. Other cigars in the series have been made by Tatuaje, Padrón, My Father Cigars, Espinosa/601 La Bomba, Arturo Fuente, Room101 and Quesada. Production for each release in the is limited, with individual release numbers ranging from 3,375 to 22,500.
A Drew Estate representative declined to provide details about the cigar until after its release. While the connection has not been confirmed, there was a 1984 movie by the same name that featured Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts and Darryl Hannah, and which was based off screenwriter Vincent Patrick’s book of the same name.
It’s the second time in a little more than a year that Drew Estate will release a limited edition cigar through Smoke Inn, as the Undercrown Dogma, a collaboration with Cigar Dojo, was sold through the store earlier this year.
Update (Dec. 16, 2014) — Abe Dababneh of Smoke Inn told halfwheel today that the cigar will be a 6 x 40 corona, making it the smallest size in the Microblend Series, and that the cigar’s full release is tentatively set for April 2015.
