A new smoking ban will be coming to the town of Winfield after the town council unanimously approved an ordinance at its meeting on Tuesday.

The ban, which goes into effect on April 1, was opposed by two bar owners who feared they would lose significant amounts of business, but was met with support by most of the approximately 45 people who showed up to the meeting, according to a report by NWITimes.comThe town has yet to post the full ordinance to its website.

Winfield is located in the northwestern corner of the state, about 50 miles southeast of Chicago, and is home to approximately 5,800 residents.
