It’s November, which for Viaje means the Los Angeles-based company’s monthly shipment is likely to include some Thanksgiving-themed cigars.
This year, it will be Stuffed Turkey—as much of a mainstay as any within Viaje’s portfolio—and the second release of Mrs. Hatchet. A spokesperson for Viaje said that the 2024 releases are the same as the most recent shipments of each cigar. Stuffed Turkey is a 5 x 58 robusto gordo vitola that is typically offered in two blends: Dark Meat uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, while Wheat Meat uses a Nicaraguan criollo 98 wrapper. Both cigars have a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers.
As of 2020, both versions still had an MSRP of $10 per cigar and were packed in boxes of 25. There was no Stuffed Turkey release last year, which seems to line up with a pattern of releasing Stuffed Turkey cigars in even-numbered years but skipping it in odd-numbered years.
Also returning for 2024 is the Viaje Mrs. Hatchet, a 6 x 50 box-pressed toro. When the cigar debuted in 2021, a Viaje spokesperson declined to comment on the blend. Mrs. Hatchet has not been released since its original shipment three years ago.
It will once again have an MSRP of $11 per cigar.
Both Stuffed Turkey and Mrs. Hatchet are part of a series of cigars centered around Thanksgiving that also includes Farmer Bill, Farmhand Andre and various Zombie versions of the non-Stuffed Turkey cigars.
Unlike most cigar companies that offer a core line of products, Viaje chooses to release cigars in limited batches, typically shipping a limited amount of cigars to stores once per month. Many of these cigars will be released again in future years, though few cigars are released every year for even a five-year stretch. In addition, Viaje is more secretive than most cigar companies, regularly declining to disclose blends or where specific cigars are made, historically, it has regularly worked with both Aganorsa in Nicaragua and Raíces Cubanas in Honduras.
