There will be two new VegaFinas shipping to international markets in the coming months.
One is the VegaFina Robusto Extra PigTail Añejado 7 Años, which will ship in May. The other is the VegaFina Fortaleza 2 Stalk Cut, which will begin shipping next month.
It’s a 6 x 54 toro that uses an undisclosed maduro wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and Dominican piloto ligero and Nicaraguan viso fillers. As the name implies, some of the tobacco used is stalk-cut, a process where the entire tobacco plant is removed from the ground and then aged. Most tobacco plants see their leaves picked individually and then aged. Stalk cutting is designed to produce richer leaves.
Altadis U.S.A., which sells VegaFina in the U.S., has used stalk cutting as part of a cigar’s identity before, notably with the Henry Clay Stalk Cut. However, the VegaFina Fortaleza 2 Stalk Cut will not be sold in the U.S.
Pricing in Spain will be €6 and production is limited to 1,860 boxes of 25 worldwide.
