United Cigars has begun shipping a new line that was created to honor the United States Navy SEALs and their families.

The Gold Star Limited Edition is a 6 x 54 toro extra vitola that is made up of an Ecuadorian habano 2000 intermedio wrapper and an Indonesian Sumatra binder along with Connecticut broadleaf and tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic in the filler. The cigars were rolled at the El Maestro factory in the Dominican Republic.

Each cigar has an MSRP of $20, and they are packaged in boxes of 20. There were 210 numbered boxes produced, but only 185 boxes will head to stores. United set aside 25 of the boxes, which were signed by active and retired Navy SEALs. Those signed boxes will be sold at auction to raise money for the Navy Seal Museum Trident House Charities and Swim With A Mission (SWAM).

“We are thrilled to introduce the Gold Star limited edition, a product of passion and purpose,” said Oliver Nivaud, director of operations for United Cigars, in a press release when the line was announced in February. “This project symbolizes our commitment to crafting exceptional cigars while supporting organizations that make a significant impact on the lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.”

In an email, Nivaud told halfwheel that stores should begin receiving boxes of the Gold Star Limited Edition this week.

Update — United has clarified that 210 boxes were made.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
