The town of Ulster, N.Y. has banned the use of tobacco and vaping products at all town-owned properties. Notably, those caught violating the law could be subject to a penalty of up to 15 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Last week, the Ulster Town Board approved the ban, which bans the use of tobacco, cannabis and vaping products on town properties. The way the law is written, the ban should cover non-smoking and non-vaping of tobacco or cannabis.

Six properties are specifically mentioned—the town hall, the town highway complex and four parks—but it covers all town-owned property. The new law will become effective once it is filed with the New York Secretary of State.

Ulster is located in the southeastern part of New York, about 80 miles north of Manhattan. It has a population of around 12,000 people.
