Just in time for the upcoming summer season, the Long Beach, N.Y. City Council has implemented a ban on smoking at all city parks, beaches and recreation areas, as well as the boardwalk area.

The council voted unanimously in favor of the ordinance on Tuesday, according to LIHerald.com. The new law goes into effect immediately, with fines for violators ranging between $50 and $500,

Long Beach is located just south of Long Island on Long Beach Barrier Island. It is home to an estimated 33,552 residents.
