Last year, Foundation Cigar Co. released a special version of its The Tabernacle line that had charitable intentions. While the 2023 release was limited and has since sold out, the plan was for it to return again this year. That’s now happening.
This week, Foundation is shipping the 2024 version of The Tabernacle Knight Commander. The cigar is the same as last year: a 6 3/4 x 52 perfecto that uses the same blend as the other The Tabernacle releases. That means a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper over a Mexican San Andrés binder and fillers from Honduras and Nicaragua. Like the rest of The Tabernacle line, it is made at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A. factory in Nicaragua, but unlike the other sizes in the line, the Knight Commander gets 15 months of aging in cedar.
The MSRP remains $40 per cigar, and like last year’s inaugural release, production is limited to 700 boxes of 12 cigars.
“Receiving the Ethiopian Star of Honor is one of the greatest privileges of my life,” said Nicholas Melillo, Foundation’s founder, in a press release. “The Knight Commander cigar is my way of giving back, and I am honored that all net proceeds will support the Royal Ethiopian Trust, contributing to projects that make a tangible difference in the lives of Ethiopians.”
The Knight Commander of The Ethiopian Star of Honor is an order of knighthood that was established to honor both foreign and domestic people for their service to the country of Ethiopia by the Ethiopian Crown Council, which is a community organization that aims to preserve and promote the culture of the former Ethiopian empire.
Foundation says it donates all of it profits from the sale of the Knight Commander to the Royal Ethiopian Trust.
