In 2018, Sinistro Cigars launched a cigar line called The Last Cowboy; now, the company is paying tribute to The Last Barbarian with the full release of a line that got a limited release in June 2021. The company will have the cigar featured in its booth at the 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show, which runs from July 8 – 12 in Las Vegas.

The blend features a Dominican maduro wrapper, a Cameroon binder that was grown in Africa, and a potent filler that contains what the company calls Dominican “super ligero,” medio tiempo that comes from the topmost part of a tobacco plant and is known for its distinctive strength and flavor. Along with that, there is ligero from Nicaragua and Pennsylvania, finished off by Nicaraguan seco.

Ligero refers to the upper leaves on a tobacco plant that get the most sunlight and thus produce thicker, oilier leaves that contain more intense flavors and strength than leaves found lower on the plant. As such, the company calls it full-bodied and medium to full strength.

It is being offered in two sizes:

  • Sinistro The Last Barbarian Robusto (5 x 52) — $10 (Box of 20, $200)
  • Sinistro The Last Barbarian Toro (6 x 54) — $12 (Box of 20, $240)

The line is produced at Tabacalera El Artista in the Dominican Republic and slated to begin shipping to retailers at the end of July. It had originally been limited to just 4,000 cigars produced for each size, and offered in paper-wrapped bundles.

Coleman Fine, co-owner of Sinistro Cigars, told halfwheel that the company is planning more releases for its “The Last” series, which honors figures that helped shape our history and future.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
