Three years after launching its Saint Luis Rey Carenas line, Altadis U.S.A. is debuting a follow-up at next week’s TPE trade show.

The Saint Luis Rey Carenas Ultramar is a four-viola line featuring a blend made up of a Nicaraguan habano wrapper covering Dominican tobaccos used for both the binder and filler. The name Carenas is a reference to Puerto de Carenas, which is the previous name of the Port of Havana.

There will be four different vitolas when the regular production line debuts, all packaged in 20-count boxes:

  • Saint Luis Rey Carenas Ultramar Corona (5 5/8 x 45) — $9.10 (Box of 20, $182)
  • Saint Luis Rey Carenas Ultramar Robuso (5 x 50) — $9.64 (Box of 20, $192.80)
  • Saint Luis Rey Carenas Ultramar Toro (6 x 52) — $9.75 (Box of 20, $195)
  • Saint Luis Rey Carenas Ultramar Magnum (6 x 60) — $10.69 (Box of 20, $213.80)

Like the original Carenas line, the Saint Luis Rey Carenas Ultramar is being produced at Flor de Copan S.A. in Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras.

The Saint Luis Rey Carenas Ultramar will be shown off at TPE 2024, which takes place Jan. 31-Feb. 2 in Las Vegas, and is scheduled to begin shipping to retailers in late February.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
