The new Casa Magna Maduro features a blend composed of a Mexican San Andrés wrapper covering a Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos grown in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and the U.S. The cigars are being made at Quesada’s Tabacos de Exportación (TABADEX) factory in the Dominican Republic.

According to a press release, the new line will consist of five different vitolas, all packaged in 20-count boxes: three regular production sizes and two limited edition vitolas. The two limited sizes are a lancero as well as a box-pressed toro made exclusively for retail members of the Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA).

The TAA is a membership group made up of around 80 retailers and approximately 40 manufacturers that gather annually to discuss issues facing the industry and retailers. In addition, the organization holds an annual trade show—this year’s event is taking place from Oct. 20-24 in Aruba—that works on a group buying format in order to secure exclusive deals for these generally high-volume merchants. Typically, around a dozen manufacturers release new exclusive cigars for the retail members of the organization under the TAA Exclusive Series Program banner. Those manufacturers agree to give a portion of the proceeds to the organization, a minimum of $1 per cigar, previously 50 cents.

“This Casa Magna Maduro cigar is extra special for me because it was a blend that I got to work hand in hand with my father and the team this year,” said Raquel Quesada, president of Quesada Cigars, in a press release. “I’m very excited to present this maduro cigar to all of you, I’m sure that you will be very amazed as I am too.”

In an email, Enrique Tavarez, vp of sales for Quesada Cigars, told halfwheel that all five Casa Magna Maduro vitolas will begin shipping to retailers starting the first week of November.

I have worn many hats in my life up to this point: I started out as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, then transitioned to photographing weddings—both internationally and in the U.S.—for more than a decade. After realizing that there was a need for a cigar website containing better photographs and more in-depth information about each release, I founded my first cigar blog, SmokingStogie, in 2008. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars, and it was one of the predecessors to halfwheel, which I co-founded.
