Next month, Plasencia Cigars will be shipping the newest addition to its Cosecha 149 line.

The Cosecha 149 Cortez is a 5 3/4 x 56 figurado with an MSRP of $18.90 each, packaged in 10-count boxes. Blend-wise, the Honduran puro uses the same tobacco as the rest of the Cosecha 149 line that debuted in 2021: the wrapper is grown in Olancho, San Agustín, while the binder is from the Jamastran Valley and the tobaccos in the filler were sourced from the Jamastran Valley, Olancho and Talanga.

The 149 in the name of the line is a reference to the 2014 tobacco harvest, which was the family’s 149th crop. Plasencia using the same naming scheme with two other lines: the discontinued Plasencia Cosecha 146 and the Cosecha 151 that was released late last year.

With the addition of the Cortez, the Cosecha 149 will be offered in four regular production sizes:

  • Plasencia Cosecha 149 Santa Fe (4 3/4 x 60) — $12 (Box of 10, $120)
  • Plasencia Cosecha 149 La Vega (5 x 52) — $13 (Box of 10, $130)
  • Plasencia Cosecha 149 Azacualpa (6 x 52) — $14.50 (Box of 10, $145)
  • Plasencia Cosecha 149 Cortez (5 3/4 x 56) — $18.90 (Box of 10, $189)

Lynn Hawkins, field marketing and project manager for Plasencia Cigars, told halfwheel that boxes of the Cosecha 149 Cortez are scheduled to arrive on store shelves in May.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
