In my first years covering the IPCPR/PCA Convention & Trade Show, I packed my bag with the diligence of a Boy Scout, trying to be prepared for any and every situation I might encounter while crisscrossing the show floor.

Over the years, as halfwheel’s coverage of the trade show grew, and we moved from working at Starbucks to having our own booth with power, wi-fi, and a locking door, I started stripping the unnecessary things from my bag. I had a place to leave them, and less desire to carry that third power bank around.

So this year I have taken even more out of my bag, which led me to think that the more interesting article might have been What’s On My Desk,” as that’s where you’ll find my laptop, headphones, bananas, dates, canned coffee, Red Bull, throat drops, and the usual cords and cables we all need.

In terms of what’s in my eBags backpack, and the other things that are with me on the show floor:

  • Reporters’ Notebooks
  • Jetstream Pens
  • Business Cards
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Sony A7iii Camera with 16-35 lens
  • iPhone
  • Monopod
  • Palió lighter
  • XIKAR MTX Cigar Multi-Tool

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
