The Tampa, Fla.-based cigar maker is not releasing any new products at the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show, but that didn’t stop a number of retailers from stopping by and checking out the company’s offerings as it looks to expand its reach beyond 7th Avenue.

While Tabanero has been around since 2007, the company made its trade show debut last year, and this year it feels like it expanded its presence on the show floor. The company has a number of its existing products on display, as well as its Taba Brew coffee line, which it offers both in-store and on its website.

The growth of Tabanero has been an interesting thing to see in my limited exposure to the company over the past decade or so, both through visiting the company’s Tampa retail location as well as watching it now try to get its products into stores across the country. The company expanding its box-making and box-printing operations in Nicaragua has also started to help smaller brands launch their products.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
