I don’t know exactly how many feet away I was from Sinistro’s booth when I got a whiff of some really strong, freshly brewed coffee, but once I did, I knew things would be lively, as usual. Despite placement in the back third of the hall, a number of retailers had made Sinistro a stop during the first part of Saturday morning.

The booth seems to include more display cases than I remember, which makes sense since the company has steadily grown its portfolio, and now includes an impressive mix of regular production lines, limited editions, and series cigars. This year, Sinistro’s “Mr. Series” has a new member.

It’s called Mr. Desflorado, and it joins Mr. Black, Mr. Red, Mr. White, and Mr. White Gold Edition.

Sinistro Mr. Desflorado

Mr. Desflorado wears a pink and gold color scheme for its bands and boxes, and the character on the band holds a flower. Desflorado is a word that shows up occasionally when referring to certain types of tobacco, though in this case it is about a process. Specifically, the removal of the often pink-hued flower that grows out of the top of a tobacco plant, which contains the seeds for a future crop. Doing so redirects energy and nutrients to the leaves, making them darker and sweeter. The cigars are slated to begin shipping next week, so they should be on store shelves well before the end of July. The line was blended by James Agopian of Sinistro Cigars, and produced by Tabacalera El Artista in the Dominican Republic.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
