One of the things that I enjoy about the PCA Convention & Trade Show is getting introduced to companies and brands that I might have never heard of before, even if they have been around for a while and produced some well-regarded cigars. Some companies just keep lower profiles than others, whether it be that they don’t do social media, they don’t have a huge sales force, or their cigars have just never crossed my path for one reason or another.

One of those companies is RM Cigars, which launched in 2020 and is based out of Tamboril, Dominican Republic. According to the company’s website, Roberto Martinez teamed up with Francisco Almonte from DBL Cigars. Though the company now has its own factory, RM Tabacalera.

As you can see, the booth was fairly straightforward with a pair of tables and a display case. I didn’t get the chance to stop by until the final hour or so of the final day, by which time the company had already started packing up, leaving the lone display case it had empty.

RM Cigars Solace Janus

RM Cigars had one new release at the show this year, and it was a unique one: the Solace Janus. It’s the first cigar in the new Solace series, with a barberpole design on the lower half of the cigar and a solid Mexican San Andrés maduro on the upper half. The blend also changes, as the top half has four different fillers: two Dominican tobaccos, seco from Nicaragua and tobacco from Pennsylvania, while the bottom half of the cigar is the same as the company’s Tigress line, with fillers from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Pennsylvania. The Indonesian binder is used throughout the entire cigar.

  • Wrapper: Mexico (San Andrés) / Mexico (San Andrés) & Undisclosed (Connecticut)
  • Binder: Indonesia
  • Filler: Dominican Republic, Nicaragua & U.S.A. (Pennsylvania)
  • RM Cigars Solace Janus (6 x 50) — $15 (Box of 10, $150)

Production: Undisclosed

Release Date: July 2023
