At last year’s PCA Convention & Trade Show, Les Fines Lames shared a booth space with German Engineered Cigars, but this year the company spread its own wings in more ways than one. Not only did Les Fines Lames have its own booth, but the company also brought a multitude of new products to show off to existing and potential clients alike.

That aforementioned booth was a respectable size, dominated by a backdrop with photographs of different products, along with tables in the middle of the booth for people to sit and discuss business and lighted glass displays in front. Les Fines Lames had been getting some buzz during the show—I had talked to multiple people who brought up the company’s new Le Tag products before actually showing up to cover the booth—so it was no surprise to see a mass of people clustered around the company’s displays almost every time I walked by.

Les Fines Lames also announced another piece of major news during the PCA show, namely that the company had entered into a distribution agreement with Oliva Cigar Co. that will see Oliva’s sales force be able to offer Les Fines Lames’ products to retailers across the country. In addition, Vandermarliere Family of Cigars—Oliva’s parent—has invested in Les Fines Lames.

Les Fines Lames Le Tag T100

The release of the Punch Bracelets made it clear that Les Fines Lames knows how to design wearable cigar cutters, so when I heard that the company was showing off a pair of “dog tag” cutters that were designed to be worn as necklaces, I was not exactly shocked. However, I was not prepared for just how well-thought-out the new Le Tag cutters would be.

The first of the two incarnations of the Le Tag is the T100, which—although it shares a name—apparently has nothing to do with the Titleist golf club. This cutter is actually made up of two separate pieces attached to a chain: the back “tag” is the single guillotine cutter made with 14c28n steel, while the front “tag” is nothing more than an ornamental piece made in the same size as the cutter. Each version will feature a different artistic pattern or design, including one with a depiction of a classic car on a Cuban street. According to the company, this version can cut cigars up to 70 ring gauge.

Les Fines Lames Le Tag T135

The other main new product from the company at this year’s PCA Show, the Le Tag T135 is another wearable cigar cutter, again designed to look like a set of dog tags.

This larger and more affordable option—compared to the T100 above—is also a single guillotine cutter, but there is no design on the front “tag,” or is there any gold plating, although it does have different color options on the handle of the blade.

Jourdan told me he thought the cutter could cut cigars up to 100 ring gauge—it certainly looked like it could—but to make sure, I visited the Aganorsa Leaf booth, where Terence Reilly, vp of sales and marketing, let me try it out on of his company’s new JFR Lunatic Maduro 10 x 100 cigars. While it turned out that the cutter could not quite cut a 100-ring gauge cigar, everyone agreed that a 90-ring gauge stick would be no issue at all.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
