A new agreement between Les Fines Lames and Vandermarliere Family of Cigars will see Oliva Cigar Co. sell and distribute the brand’s products in the United States as of September 1.

Vandermarliere is also becoming an investor in Les Fines Lames, providing them with funding to help the accessory maker continue to grow in its business operations and develop new products, among other things. Terms of the investment have not been disclosed.

Les Fines Lames launched in 2015 and has become known for creating an innovative line of cigar accessories that fuse contemporary design, modularity and ease of maintenance, a portfolio of items that include the Le Petit cigar knife and the Punch Bracelet. While the company has had several years of rapid growth, co-founders Pierre Jourdan and Pablo Rodet decided that a closer partnership with an industrial investor would help sustain the development of their company.

“Via a colleague I got introduced to Pablo & Pierre many years ago and I always admired their dedication, thinking out-of-the-box and overall strive to go for excellent quality,” said Frederik Vandermarliere of VCF Cigars. “In a traditional industry like the cigar industry, it is always nice to have people that want to come up with innovation. It brings fresh air and keeps us awake not to do the same thing all over again.”

Vandermarliere noted the challenges that start-ups such as Les Fines Lames face, including finding the right partners to sustain growth. He noted said that he feels it is task not only to guide his family’s company that has been in business for nearly 100 years, but that it his task to help young starters in our industry to reach new heights”

Jourdan and Rodet will remain in place as co-owners of the company and will continue to run it in the way they did before. A new part of that will involve working with Oliva Cigar Co., which will handle distribution and product fulfillment in the U.S. Oliva’s sales representatives will be able to sell Les Fines Lames products to its accounts throughout the country.

“We have a premium cigar brand that is highly recognized and appreciated by American consumers. We take great care in our work, and we couldn’t be happier to add the most dynamic brand of premium cigar accessories made in France to the portfolio of our sales team,” said Cory Bappert, ceo of Oliva Cigar Co. in a press release.

Rodet noted that the two companies share a philosophy of excellent customers service, and he expressed excitement that many synergies will emerge from joint events.

Les Fines Lames is not modifying any of its current distribution agreements in the rest of the world.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
