Last summer, Hiram & Solomon Cigars announced that it was moving production of its entire portfolio to PDR Cigars, so it made a bit more sense to find the two companies located next to each other at this year’s PCA Convention & Trade Show, creating a 20′ by 50′ space.

A few weeks ahead of the trade show, Fouad Kashouty said that his company wouldn’t have any new products, but he did happen to mention that there’d be some new packaging on display, some of which has been out in the market for a little while now, and other updates that are yet to arrive. The big thing that you’ll notice is that the bands will get an update with 3-D metallic printing, the line’s name will move up to the main band, and the boxes will go from wood to a thick cardboard, the latter of which is in response to increasing challenges of getting wood for boxes. It’s also something that PDR Cigars has done with the majority of its boxes. There will also be more QR codes showing up on boxes and SKU stickers, as the company wants consumers to click the code and go to its website to learn more about the line, and as the company says in its tagline, “discover our secrets.”

The booth was a 20′ x 20′ space, with vertical glass cabinets in the front and horizontal cabinets along one side and again in the front. A couple of seating areas fill up the middle of the booth, giving sales reps a chance to write up orders or Hiram & Solomon’s staff to hold meetings.

Hiram & Solomon Unity

One of the more notable packaging changes is that the Unity line is now available in its own standalone packaging. Previously, it had only been available as part of a 4-cigar sampler. Everything remains the same in terms of the size and blend.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
