Although the giant yellow chicken flipping an arrow sign was back in front of the Drunk Chicken Cigars booth during this year’s 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show, virtually everything else related to the company’s booth and overall setup has changed dramatically compared to previous years.

Drunk Chicken’s old booth was replaced by a purple-centric setup that was not only more inviting but also did a better job of grabbing people’s attention as they walked by. There was also a noticeable increase in the number of staff on hand to help customers, which turned out to be a great addition when seeing the mass of people who always seemed to be crowded around the company’s booth.

Desiree Sylver, the founder of Drunk Chicken, was as affable as ever, even after doing five interviews with separate media organizations before I even visited the booth. While the company was only showing off one new release this year, Sylver told me she has a number of exciting products in the pipeline, including a totally new brand of cigars that would be far different than anything else Drunk Chicken has released thus far.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
