Steve Casalino, founder of CigarzUp, has invented a number of items over the years, some of which are cigar related and some of which are not. There was the RazrUp—a product designed to hold your razor around a shaving cream can—which was followed in short order by the CigarzUp, which allows the user to rest their cigar on a beverage container. However, during the pandemic, Casalino thought up his most ambitious project yet, the Cigar Butler.

While the CigarzUp booth was fairly small, that did not stop gaggles of people from stopping by and trying out the Cigar Butler that was being shown off. In fact, I saw a line of people waiting to try the invention out for themselves as I passed by multiple times during the four days I was walking the trade show floor.

Casalino was showing off his Cigar Butler invention, a free-standing lighter and cutter combination product intended to allow cigar shops and lounges to offer their customers a hands-free cutting and lighting experience by way of a pair of foot pedals. Casalino told me that, at the moment, he hand-makes every unit and that the product essentially eliminates the issue of cutters and lighters going missing at cigar retailers.

The Cigar Butler

The Cigar Butler is a free-standing lighter and cutter combination product intended to allow cigar shops and lounges to offer their customers a hands-free cutting and lighting experience by way of a pair of foot pedals. The product is made with a popular cigar cutter that offers multiple cutting options as well as a “durable, reliable single torch lighter with a large butane reservoir,”according to the company, all contained in a large stand that comes to about chest-high.

While the physical stand, foot pedals, cutter and lighter are all the same, there are three different options when it comes to designs of the front face-plate of the stand: the stand with no logo or light costs, $1,799 shipped, a stand with a round backlit logo costs $1,899 shipped and a stand that includes an option for the entire front panel to be backlit retails for $1,999 shipped.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
