If there’s one sure sign that I’m at the PCA Convention & Trade Show, it’s seeing the Battleground Cigars tent on the show floor. It’s been the company’s booth since we first covered them in 2016, and while the side walls have come up to give it a more open feel, it has largely stayed the same. Inside, there are some comfortable seating areas and displays that don’t quite look like they’d be found in a battlefield tent, but the lanterns and some vintage touches do contribute to the feel.

This year, the Tarnowicz family—which runs Battleground Cigar and its related retail shop, Connecticut Valley Tobacconist—decided to bring back a cigar that debuted just under a decade ago but hasn’t been on the market for several years.

Cigars from the company’s portfolio were displayed in the corners of the booth as well as on additional tables in the middle of the space. That includes some of the new releases that debuted at last year’s trade show but only recently began shipping, as well as some new vitolas that the company added over the winter months.

It will debut in three box-pressed sizes, including the torpedo-shaped Blaze, with more in the works, according to the company.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
