“Have you seen the giant yellow chicken running around carrying a sign?” is not exactly a normal question you hear at most cigar conventions but in the case of Drunk Chicken Cigars, it is actually a valid query.

That is because the cigar business founded by Desiree Sylver embraces a poultry-centric branding scheme that extends not only to the aforementioned person in costume but also to the monikers attached to its other creations include the names Fat Hen, Mother Clucker and Homicidal Hen.

The branding also extends to the company’s booth—er, “chicken coop”—which is decorated liberally with (fake) chickens and roosters, paintings of chickens and even bells made to look like chickens.

I have worn many hats in my life up to this point: I started out as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, then transitioned to photographing weddings—both internationally and in the U.S.—for more than a decade. After realizing that there was a need for a cigar website containing better photographs and more in-depth information about each release, I founded my first cigar blog, SmokingStogie, in 2008. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars, and it was one of the predecessors to halfwheel, which I co-founded.
