One of the most interesting booths I have seen while covering booths during this year’s PCA Convention & Trade Show is CigarMedics, due to the unique items that the company has brought to show off.

Those items include not only an updated version of the company’s HumidiMeter, but also a fascinating new cigar cutter and an extremely functional tool for cigar smokers who love to enjoy cigars while golfing.

Although the CigarMedics booth was a fairly standard setup—a 10′ x 10′ space with a backdrop and one table—it was almost always packed with people waiting to talk to someone about the company’s products. In fact, most of the people I asked said that they had never heard about CigarMedics until someone they knew told them they should stop by and see what the company had to offer.

HumidiMeter Pro

This is an upgraded version of the company’s HumidiMeter; both products are designed to measure the moisture content inside a cigar, specifically within the filler tobaccos inside the cigar. Those updates include: a smaller footprint, retractable probes that are positioned closer together so that the product can more easily be used on cigars with smaller ring gauges like lanceros, and a rechargeable battery that is charged via USB. Unfortunately, the samples of the HumidiMeter Pro did not make it to the show in time to show them off.

The Baller

In development for the past two years, this 100 percent American-made cutter that is designed to combine aspects of both a punch cutter and a v-cutter. According to Luigi Lucente, product development engineer at CigarMedics, The Baller works by cutting a 12mm circular indention out of the cap of a cigar, much like a shallow melon baller.

Lucente told me that while the original plan was for only 250 units to be s0ld exclusively on the company’s website this month, a much larger than anticipated demand for the cutter will result in more being released for sale at retail outlets as well as online in time for the Christmas season. However, an estimated 150 cutters will still go on sale via the CigarMedics website today. (Editor’s Note: As of publishing time, these do not appear on sale.)

NubTee

Finally, CigarMedics is showing off the NubTee, a product made of chrome-plated steel and hardened stainless steel that has multiple uses. First and foremost, it is designed to be a cigar holder for people who play golf and is made with a spike on the bottom that can be inserted into the ground to keep the cigar steady or attached to a golf cart. It also doubles as a cigar nubber.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
