Blackbird Cigar Co. debuted at the 2019 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show with four different lines that adhered to a simple edict: every blend is named after—and matched specifically to—a certain type of bird. More  releases followed in 2020, but it was not until May 2021 that the company announced a limited edition, albeit a limited edition without a name.

The booth Blackbird Cigar Co. is selling out of is very different than the one it used in 2019, most notably due to the fact that the background color is a soft, pleasing blue color instead of an almost shocking red. In addition, the booth was fairly busy just about every time I walked by.

Blackbird “Unknown Limited Edition”

It still officially does not have a name—thus, it is still dubbed the “Unknown Limited Edition”—nor do we know anything about the blend, but we do know it will have a name and finalized packaging when it starts shipping to retailers in August. In addition, the release will feature marketing that will include some augmented reality aspects, although the final form that will take is still being finalized.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
