After showing off the Family Reserve No. 96 at last July’s 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show, Padrón is ready to send the cigars to stores, Jorge Padrón told halfwheel today.

It’s a Nicaraguan puro that is offered in a round 5 3/4 x 52 robusto extra vitola, with both Natural and Maduro wrapper options available. Pricing is set at $30.50 per cigar, with the cigars offered in 10-count boxes priced at $305.

The newest size in Padrón’s Family Reserve line commemorates what would be the 96th birthday of company founder José Orlando Padrón, who was born in 1922 and passed away in December 2017 at the age of 91. It joins several other vitolas in the line, which debuted in 2007, and which uses tobacco that has been aged for 10 years, with the company saying that the blend delivers a full-bodied flavor.

According to the company, only retailers who attended the 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show were able to order the cigar, and it won’t be available to reorder until this year’s show, which happens July 7-11 in Las Vegas, Nev. It’s a similar manner to how the Family Reserve No. 95 was released in 2021.

The company originally estimated that the cigar would be released late in the fall of 2022, ahead of the holiday season.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
