For the 2021 installment of the Davidoff Chefs Edition, the company took the line to a new level of packaging, giving its most dressed-up look since the line debuted in 2016.
Instead of using a traditional box, the company placed the cigars in a ceramic, four-finger ashtray, and then covered that with a lid that doubles as a large coaster for your drinks and a place to lay your accessories.
While it may be a stretch, it could also be seen as a cutting board, though I don’t know if I’d want to lay down a fresh cut of meat or fish on this packaging.
In terms of checking the boxes that tend to help packaging score well, it’s not only a wonderfully executed package that builds on the name of the cigar, but it’s something you’re more likely to hold on to for its ability to be used long after the cigars have been smoked. — Patrick Lagreid.
