Ohana Nui has begun shipping its Aloha cigar, the debut release for the new venture from Ohana Cigars and 262 Cigars, as well as the Time Out Cigars portfolio, which it is distributing.

The Aloha is a 6 x 50 toro that uses an Ecuadorian-grown habano-seed wrapper atop a binder from Nicaragua’s Condega region, while the filler includes tobacco from Nicaragua’s Jalapa region, and ligero from Estelí in Nicaragua. It is a regular production line priced at $9 per cigar and $90 for a bundle of 10 cigars. The cigars are produced by Tabacalera Pages de Nicaragua S.A.

Time Out Cigars, which was launched by Neil Ylanan and developed with Ryan Rodriguez of Ohana Cigars, was launched in June and made its industry debut at the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show.

Rodriguez led the blending process for Time Out’s two releases, the Time Out Habano and the Time Out Maduro Sumatra. Both cigars use a Nicaraguan binder and filler, while the Time Out Habano uses an Ecuadorian-grown habano-seed wrapper, while the Maduro Sumatra’s origin is undisclosed. Rodriguez says the Maduro Sumatra is highlighted by dark chocolate and tobacco flavors, while the Habano is highlighted by spice and pepper that turns smooth and creamy, which he said would pair well with a coffee or cocktail.

The two blends are distinguishable by their bands; the Maduro Sumatra blend wears a band with a black and blue ring as opposed to the blue and red ring found on the Habano. Both blends in the Time Out Line are offered in the same three sizes and at the same three MSRPs:

  • Time Out Habano / Maduro Sumatra Robusto (5 x 50) — $13 (Box of 20, $260)
  • Time Out Habano / Maduro Sumatra Toro (6 x 50) — $14 (Box of 20, $280)
  • Time Out Habano / Maduro Sumatra Soft Box-Pressed Torpedo (6 1/2 x 50) — $15 (Box of 20, $300)

Time Out’s cigars are produced at Origen Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
