North Wildwood, N.J. Joins in Boardwalk Smoking Ban
In a move that should come as no surprise, the city of North Wildwood, N.J. has joined in the growing boardwalk ban on the Jersey Shore.
The ban comes on the heels of the city’s neighbor of Wildwood passing a similar ban just a few weeks ago, and is being called not only a move to improve health, but to reduce litter and the risk of fire on the largely wooden structure. It applies to the structure itself, its access ramps, and a 10-foot area around the boardwalk, according to the Cape May County Herald. The city has yet to post the ban on its website.
The ban goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2018, with the city using the upcoming summer season to inform both locals and visitors as to the ban. Fines for violating the ban have not yet been announced, but the city’s chief of police said that people will be given the opportunity to comply first before any sort of citation is issued.
North Wildwood is home to approximately 4,000 residents.
