The Fonseca by My Father line is getting a new version this month, as the company will be unveiling the Fonseca Edition MX at the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show later this month.

As the name suggests, the new line uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, while the binder and filler use Nicaraguan tobacco grown on the García family’s farms. The wrapper on this new line replaces the Nicaraguan shade-grown corojo 99 rosado leaf found on the original Fonseca by My Father line.

The Fonseca Edición San Andrés will be offered in four sizes:

  • Fonseca Edition MX Robusto (5 x 50) — $11 (Box of 20, $220)
  • Fonseca Edition MX Cedros (6 1/4 x 52) — $12.50 (Box of 20, $250)
  • Fonseca Edition MX Toro Gordo (6 x 60) — $13.50 (Box of 20, $270)
  • Fonseca Edition MX Toro Grande (6 1/2 x 56) — $13 (Box of 20, $260)

The new line is expected to ship immediately following the trade show, which runs from March 23-25 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Update (March 7, 2024) — My Father clarified that the name of the cigar is the Fonseca Edition MX after an initial announcement suggested the name was the Fonseca Edición San Andrés. The story has been updated accordingly.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
