At last year’s trade show, Moya Ruiz Cigars showed off a new line called Il Ridotto that was released to just a handful of retailers in order to beat the FDA’s deadline for cigars to be released without needing the agency’s approval first.
This year, Danny Moya and Nelson Ruiz are opening up sales to retailers across the nation and are ready to ship the cigars to retailers nationwide.
Like nearly all of the cigars coming from Moya Ruiz, Il Ridotto gets its name from the roots of gambling; in this case it is an Italian term that means the private room.
“Since both of our prior releases have to do with games, playing dominos and poker, we wanted to go back to the roots of gambling,” said Danny Moya, co-owner of MoyaRuiz Cigars, in a press release when the cigar was announced last year. “That’s where the inspiration came from, to really tell the story of gambling, which Americans love so passionately.”
Il Ridotto uses a Brazilian habano wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers and is offered in two sizes, Biribi (5 x 52, $8) and Basetta (6 x 52, $8.20), both of which come in boxes of 20.
In keeping with the gaming theme, the vitola names have tie-ins as well. Biribi is a game of French origin that is similar to a lottery, while Basetta is a high-stakes card game for people of wealth that originates from Italy in the late 16th century.
Moya said that Il Ridotto will begin to ship immediately following the trade show, which runs July 11 – 14 in Las Vegas, Nev.
