There will be a new regular production size for the Mil Días line coming to stores in August, the first time that Crowned Heads has added a new regular production vitola for the line that debuted in 2020.

The Mil Días Topes is a 4 7/8 x 56 parejo with a pigtail. Like the rest of the Mil Días line, it uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Peru. The Topes will have an MSRP of $12.25 per cigar and will come in boxes of 20 when it begins shipping to stores in August.

“We felt the timing was right to expand the Mil Días range, and this will be the largest ring gauge to-date in the brand,” said Jon Huber, co-founder of Crowned Heads, in a press release. “We found the larger ring gauge when combined with a shorter length really allowed the blend to open up and express itself, emphasizing the unique floral notes and sweetened cream tones that Mil Dias has become known for.”

While this might be the first new regular production size for Mil Días, the company has released five different Mil Días limited editions over the years, most recently, the Marranitos E648, which began shipping in April. Of note, the two Marranitos limited editions have used an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper instead of the habano leaf found on the normal cigar.

Mil Días is produced at TacaNicsa, the factory led by Eradio Pichardo. It is located in the same building as Tabacalera Pichardo, the factory that made Mil Días when the line debuted.

The factory’s name change is likely related to a split between Crowned Heads and Luciano Cigars, formerly known as ACE Prime, both of which made cigars at Tabacalera Pichardo. In September 2022, the two companies separately announced the distribution agreement that saw Crowned Heads distribute ACE Prime would come to an end in October. Previously, Luciano Cigars announced that it moved its production to its own factory and announced a second factory in Estelí.

The name, Spanish for 1,000 days, references the amount of time that passed between when the Tabacalera Pichardo factory gave some samples to Crowned Heads and when the Mil Días blend was finalized.
