The Malibu City Council voted unanimously in favor of an extension to its smoking ban that would prohibit smoking in city parks and open spaces.

These changes will still need to pass a second reading before they go into law, but the first reading passed unanimously without comment.

In addition, the changes would ban the use of e-cigarettes in all places where traditional tobacco products are banned. Malibu already bans smoking in a variety of places like its beaches and outdoor areas of restaurants.

Malibu is located in Los Angeles County, it has a population of around 10,000.
