Just after the baseball season comes to a close, ACE Prime will release the newest cigar in its M.X.S. series, this time featuring former baseball player Adrián González.

The cigar is called the M.X.S. Adrián González and is a 6 1/2 x 50 toro vitola, though ACE Prime refers to the size as the Titanes. It uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Peru and Nicaragua. It is made at Tabacalera Pichardo in Nicaragua and the company calls it bold in flavor and medium-full in strength.

The M.X.S. series is a limited, seasonal release, and for this installment the company is producing 1,500 boxes of 20 cigars for a total of 30,000 total cigars. Each cigar has an MSRP of $12.50, before taxes.

Luciano Meirelles, the founder of ACE Prime, told halfwheel that he and González met in 2016 through a mutual friend, and the conversation eventually turned to cigars, as González has been enjoying them for over 20 years. Meirelles added that he began blending cigars for González in 2019 and over the course of six months, the two went back and forth on developing this specific blend.

As for González’s involvement with the cigar one it is released, “you can expect to see him quite often,” Meirelles said, adding that González wants to be involved with promoting the cigar, which could include attending in-store events and upcoming trade shows.

The M.X.S. Adrián González El Titán is scheduled to begin shipping on Nov. 5. It becomes the third cigar in the M.X.S. line, joining cigars released in 2019 that were made with former NBA players Dominique Wilkins and Tiago Splitter. The line’s name stands for “Maximum Excellence and Success.”

González spent 15 seasons in MLB, five of which he was named an All-Star. In addition, he won the Gold Glove Award four times and was named the Silver Slugger twice.

ACE Prime is distributed by Crowned Heads.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
